Area CEO's learn about ALICE

October 9, 2018 | by uwhr1957

Ted Castle is the owner and president of Rhino Foods in Burlington, Vermont. During a breakfast meeting, Castle discussed ways he actively tries to focus on employees and community members living below the ALICE threshold. ALICE is the acronym for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed.

One innovation Castle implemented is a loan program for his employees who are financially stressed and needed short-term loans for things like broken water heaters and flat tires. He found that the loan program helped improved the employees’ credit and some even started savings accounts once the loans were paid off.

The CEO Breakfast on Wednesday, Oct. 3 was hosted by United Way of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County. Along with Castle’s presentation, United Way Executive Director, Laura Toni-Holsinger also share details about those who live below the ALICE threshold who are often over looked and may not qualify for much-needed assistance.

Our sincere thanks to Union Bank & Trust for sponsoring the event and thanks, also, to all who attended.
