Rotarians, United Way of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County Make Child Care Focus Of Annual Giving Tuesday

Rotary Will Match All Gifts To United Way Up To $33K On November 29

Thanks to the fundraising efforts of local Rotarians, United Way of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County is excited to announce this year’s Giving Tuesday will benefit child care in our region.
The Rotary Club of Harrisonburg, Rocktown Rotary, Rotary Club of Rockingham County, The Harrisonburg-Massanutten Rotary Club and The Bridgewater Rotary Club will match all gifts made to UWHR on Nov. 29, 2022, up to a total of $33,000 designated toward scholarships at The Roberta Webb Center in Harrisonburg, Plains Area Daycare Center in Broadway, Harrisonburg Rockingham Child Day Care Center in Harrisonburg, Generations Crossing in Rockingham County and Connections Early Learning Center in Bridgewater.
“Quality child care is one of the most important pieces of infrastructure in our community, because it allows families to remain financially stable while also providing a safe and nurturing environment for our children to grow and thrive,” said Amanda Leech, Executive Director of United Way of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County. “I am incredibly grateful for our local Rotary groups and their hard work in making this gift possible and look forward to the great impact that will come from it.”
The matching funds were raised by Rotarians through their Strawberry Festival and ValleyFest.
Those wishing to donate on Giving Tuesday are encouraged to do so through United Way of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County’s website (UWHR.org) between the hours of 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. to make sure their gift is matched by our local Rotarians.
"After two years of not being able to host these events due to the pandemic, our local Rotary Clubs were thrilled to get back to serving our community again, and raising significant funds in support of child care,” said Braydon Hoover, Rotary’s Immediate Past President. “Partnering with United Way to distribute these funds in an equitable manner was a no brainer. We invite everyone in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County to join us in supporting these vital services and make the impact even greater.”
