Certification helps safeguard donors' investment in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County by ensuring that United Way funded organizations are managed effectively and meet United Way's standards of excellence. United Way volunteer certification team members conduct on-site visits with the organization's staff and/or board representatives, then make certification recommendations to the United Way Board of Directors.

Workplace Campaign Coordinators play a key role every year in the United Ways Impact Campaign. Employee Campaign Coordinators are responsible for running successful and enjoyable workplace campaigns. Workplace campaigns are a major part of the United Way Campaign and over half of Community Impact Revenues are raised in workplace campaigns.
Throughout the year United Way hosts and participates in a variety of special events, including Stuff the Bus, Day of Caring and Summer Reading Parties.
